Avant Garde chairman arrested

Avant Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi has been arrested after he returned to Sri Lanka.
The Police said he was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) when he arrived from  Singapore.

Suspicious vehicle in Mattakkuliya a false alarm, Police clarifies

Mattakkuliya Police Station has launched an investigation into a tip-off received by them regarding a suspicious vehicle parked near a church and a school in Mattakkuliya.

Upon inspection, the police have discovered a luxury vehicle parked in the mentioned area, stated the Police Media Spokesperson.

Battaramulle Seelarathana Thero complains against ‘fake’ social media posts about his manifesto

Leader of the Janasetha Peramuna, Venerable Battaramulle Seelarathana Thero has informed the Campaign for Free and Fair Election (CaFFE) that posts being shared on social media regarding his election manifesto are false.

This seems to be a deliberate ploy to embarrass his party by an organized group, the Thera told CaFFE.

Number of ballot papers per ballot box drops from 700 to 400

As the ballot paper for this time’s presidential election is extremely long in comparison to previous elections, the number of ballot papers each ballot box can hold has reduced to 400.

In previous elections, the number of ballot papers each ballot box could hold was around 700.

Sajith hands over national security to Fonseka!

After winning the upcoming presidential election, the country’s national security would be handed over to Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, said the New Democratic Front presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.

MoU between SLFP and SLPP inked

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) a short while ago.

The Colombo High Court today (09) ordered to revise the bail order of the Colombo Magistrate’s Court and remand IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando.

The  High Court today delivering its decision on the revision application filed by the Attorney General, against the granting of bail to Inspector General of Police (IGP) and former Defence Secretary.

Six former active JVP members are contesting the upcoming presidential election.

They are Siripala Amarasinghe, Piyasiri Wijenayake, Duminda Nagamuwa, Anuruddha Polgampola, Samansiri Herath and Aruna de Soysa. They had all handed in their nominations.

All 35 nominations submitted to the Elections Commission have been accepted, stated the Chairman of the Elections Commission.

Two objections submitted to the Elections Commission regarding the nominations have been rejected by the Commission.

Appeals Court begins hearing petition against Gotabaya’s citizenship

A three-judge bench of the Court of Appeal has commenced considering the petition filed against recognizing former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as a Sri Lankan citizen, says Ada Derana reporter.

The petition was filed by two social activists Gamini Viyangoda and Prof. Chandraguptha Thenuwara on Monday (30).

IGP arrested by CID

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), stated the Police Media Spokesperson.

The arrest has been made over an incident of assaulting a lift operator at the Police Headquarters in 2017.
