Notorious underworld kingpin Samarasinghe Arachchilage Madush Lakshitha alias Makandure Madush has accepted responsibility for the shooting of the Police Narcotics Division OIC – IP Neomal Rangajeewa and underworld leader Aruna Udaya Shantha alias ranale Samayang while he was being taken to courts in a prison bus, according to CID internal sources.

Six-member committee from Health Min. to investigate Dr. Shafi

According to the Secretary of the Health Ministry, a six-member committee including doctors specializing in obstetrics and gynecology is appointed for this purpose.

Doctor arrested over suspicious assets

A 42-year-old doctor attached to the Kurunegala Hospital has been arrested over assets earned through suspicious means, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

The arrested doctor has been identified as Seigu Siyabdeen Mohamed Shafi, 42, a resident of Weerasinghe Mawatha in Kurunegala.

He was arrested last night (24) based on information received by Kurunegala Police in order to investigate his assets and the means by which he had earned them.

Kurunegala Police is conducting further investigations.

UPDATE: The arrested doctor in question is reportedly a member of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) and had contested the last General Election from the Kurunegala District under the UNP.

Sri Lankan with possible links to Easter attacks arrested in Myanmar

A Sri Lankan man, believed to have connections with those involved in the Easter bombings that killed at least 250 people, was arrested in Myanmar on Thursday afternoon.

Abdul Salam Irshad Mohmood, 39, was detained by police when he appeared at an immigration office in downtown Yangon to renew his visa.

SIM cards found in Ma Oya belong to a private company

The police stated that 1475 SIM cards used for mobile phones were found in Ma Oya in the Kochchikade area in Negombo. A stock of unused SIM cards has been found at a wooded area near Ma Oya, last evening (20).

The SIM cards had been inside a sack and they belong to a certain private company, stated Kochchikade Police.
