Hacker who threatened 36 companies, arrested

An IT university student who had hacked into a computer network and within five hours had caused a loss of Rs. 19.3 million and had demanded a ransom of Rs. 5 million from the owner of the company had been arrested today (29) by the Trincomalee Police Headquarters.

The IT student had hacked into an international computer software company headquartered in Trincomalee.

Amal Perera to be deported from Dubai soon

Singer Amal Perera, who was arrested in Dubai with the drug kingpin “Makandure Madush”, is to be deported to Sri Lanka soon, according to sources.

On February 5th, the Dubai Police had arrested “Makandure Madush” at a party which involved drugs. Several prominent underworld figures and Sri Lankan celebrities including singer Amal Perera and his son Nadeemal Perera were also taken into custody at this party thrown by Madush.

Real owner of diamond stolen by Madush, revealed

Investigations have revealed that the Diamond alleged to have been stolen from a gem businessman in Arawwala Maharagama on the instructions of Makandure Madush, has been brought to the country by a South African national.

The South African national had tried to smuggle the diamond into the country and upon being detected by the Customs officer, he had tried to cut a deal with him, the Aruna Newspaper reported.

Milk powder prices increased under new formula

The prices of powdered milk have been increased according to the new milk food price formula, Minister of Industry and  Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen said.

Accordingly the price of a 1kg packet of milk powder has been increased by Rs 60 while the price of a 400g packet has been increased by Rs 25.

The Interpol website has reported that red notices have been issued against 14 Sri Lankans charged with committing crimes at international level.

Police suspicious over behaviour of Madush’s pal Ryan’s sister

The police had searched the house belonging to the sister of tele-actor Ryan Van Royen, who is currently in custody in Dubai together with drug kingpin Makandure Madush, yesterday due to the suspicious behaviour of the occupants.

The house down Parantha Dolewatte Road, Panadura was taken on rent under Ryan’s sister’s name and his mother. Father, sister and family had been living there.
