President rejects age restriction for three-wheeler drivers

President Maithripala Sirisena rejected a proposal submitted to the cabinet at its meeting yesterday (21) by transport minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to ban below-35-year-olds from driving three-wheelers.

He advised the ministers to consider from the side of the people when submitting proposals in the future.

Finance minister Mangala Samaraweera objected to the proposal previously.

He said he proposed that age restriction to be brought down to 25 years, as one’s right to employment should be allowed, he told the opening of a bank branch at Uyanwatte in Matara on August 18.
